Abstract

Previous methods for controlling Oriental armyworm (Mythimna separata) using sex pheromones involved the use of effective compounds, such as (Z)-11-hexadecenal, (Z)-11-hexadecenyl acetate, and (Z)-11-hexadecenol. However, the existing method, which introduces double bonds via the Wittig olefination reaction, struggles to achieve a high cis-isomer purity of over 95% due to poor cis stereoselectivity during double bond introduction. This study aimed to address the above issue by synthesizing 1,10-dibromodecane and 1-hexyne, which are commercially available and inexpensive, through catalytic reduction, thereby facilitating practical application and contributing to the development of environmentally friendly pest control strategies.
